Burrower was one of the four great digging machines which the D'ni used to excavate new tunnels and caverns. It was originally built in 6430 DE for the widening of the Rudenna Passage. Its contemporary, Rock Biter, was also used for this project.
All four digging machines were used in the construction of the Great Shaft in 9336 DE. Burrower was one of the two machines used to finish the walls of the Shaft after Grinder and Old Stone Tooth had completed their rough excavations, and to cut the walkway that spiraled up it.
