Eavan was one of Gehn's pupils on Riven. He and Catherine were close, and uncertain of Gehn's claims of godhood. At her insistence, he questioned Gehn during a guild meeting one day. Rather than hear him, Gehn became furious and insisted that the other guild members "[feed] him to the sea", sacrificing him to Gehn's pet wahrk. Gehn later used Eavan's disobedience as a scapegoat for a massive crack that had appeared in the island's great tree. He claimed that he had caused it to appear as punishment for Eavan's transgression, when in fact it had appeared as a result of Gehn's own incompetence with the Art.
