Efanis was a friend of Aitrus's during the Guild of Surveyors expedition to construct a path connecting D'ni to the surface of Earth.
He assisted Aitrus during a demonstration of the Cycler for Guild Master Kedri. Later in the expedition, he was severely injured when a cutting tip on the team's excavator shattered, striking him with debris. He died several days later due to an adverse reaction to the medicine he was put on. Efanis's death was the first of the expedition, and came as a great shock to everyone involved. His body was linked to the burial Age of Te'negamiris in a quiet ceremony before the expedition crew returned to their mission.
