Emmit was the young man who first discovered "The Rocks", the area of the Stoneship Age to which Atrus' Descriptive Book connected. As a boy, he would swim in the water a fish, living out of a cave in the largest rock. He gave names to the other people who arrived on The Rocks after him, including Branch and Will.
It is unclear whether Emmit fled The Rocks when Sirrus and Achenar began to exploit the Age, or if he met a darker fate at their hands.
