Gavas was a member of the Averonese group which linked to D'ni to help Atrus break out of his prison on K'veer, and stayed on to help in the restoration of D'ni.
Gavas's assistance was cut short, however, when he linked to Sedona as part of a routine check of the Age's stability. During his two-second expedition into the Age wearing an Environmental Verification Suit, he linked, unknowingly, into the heart of a supernova. The intense heat and pressure nearly destroyed the suit he was wearing, and the injuries he sustained were serious enough to require a long-term rehabilitation back on Averone.
