Haemis was a Guild Master in the Guild of Linguists near the fall of D'ni.

He was one of the Linguists assigned to monitor and educate Anna when she arrived in D'ni, with the intention of understanding her language. Initially, he thought of Anna as "some kind of grinning primitive animal," but after working with her, he saw her keen intellect. He became friendly with her, and offered to speak for her at her hearings before the Guild Council. In violation of D'ni law, he also offered to procure for her a copy of Rehevkor, the D'ni lexicon. This violation resulted in him being removed from the team studying Anna.
