Faresh (<dni>fareS</dni>contested) was a member of the Guild of Illusionists. In 5043 DE, he was placed in charge of the guild by King Yableshan, and by extension, was made the chief of the Relyimah—the D'ni secret police. Yableshan tasked Faresh with rooting out corruption and moles within the organization. In 5083 DE, Faresh succeeded in dealing with two of the Relyimah's moles, who vanished and were never heard from again. As a result of this action, Faresh became a silent hero among critical government officials, and D'ni factions that would otherwise have agitated against the government were quieted, knowing they were now being watched.

When he first took charge of the Relyimah, Faresh also began building a large, puzzle-filled mansion on Katha Island, which he owned. He raised his daughter there until she tragically died, leaping from a window to her death in 5102 DE. After the death of his daughter, Faresh was never the same, and he abandoned the house a year later. While it was not public knowledge at the time, he left the house to the Relyimah, who continued to use it as a base of operations for many years. Rumors about the island mansion being haunted by Faresh's daughter were only strengthened by tales of mysterious boats and shadowy figures traveling to and from it.
