Planned Proposals
I have around a decade's worth of programming experience. My primary programming languages are C++, C#, Lua, Haskell, and my favourite topics are language design, parsing, and compiler construction.

Things that I intend to propose when I find a suitable place to propose them and have a moment to state my case:
Historically I don't have much experience with editing wikis. I've done the odd bit of editing on <abbr title="The Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages">UESP</abbr>, but my work here on the Guild of Archivists is the most I've ever contributed to a single wiki, and as a result I've learnt a great deal in a short time, particularly about templates, modules, and Semantic MediaWiki properties.

* Propose the addition of a <code>quote</code> parameter to various <code>cite</code> templates, including <code>cite dialog</code>, <code>cite book</code>, and <code>cite forum post</code>.
I have limited knowledge of D'ni, but hope to improve it. The extensive D'ni Dictionary here has been one of my big reasons for using and wanting to contribute to the wiki. I'm not a trained linguist, but I can read IPA, and I can pronounce the /ɾ/ (alveolar tap) occasionally found in D'ni words like Todelmer and rahwah due to having some experience with Japanese.
** Specifically, such citations would include an optional <code>quote</code> parameter that could include a relevant exerpt from the cited resource to better illustrate specifically which part of the resource is relevant to the cited claim.

*** E.g. the Esher article uses a <code>cite dialog</code> template to cite Yeesha's 2007-11-05 cavern speech and provides a timestamp (19:17:37) for the specific quote. Rather than having to hunt through the chatlog to find the corresponding timestamped quote, the relevant quote itself could be included as part of the template and thus show up in the <code>reflist</code>. I.e. rather than <quote>Yeesha. 2007-11-05 Yeesha and the bahro in K'veer [19:17:37]. Uru Live.</quote>, the reference could be: <quote>"He is missing a large patch of skin on his shoulder - taken from him in the tortuous lab of Esher." Yeesha. 2007-11-05 Yeesha and the bahro in K'veer [19:17:37]. Uru Live.</quote>, which would be more useful for readers checking references.
Wiki Improvement Proposals
*** Including a quote parameter for book citations would allow lines from the book series to be quoted as proof of evidence/relevance without requiring the whole book text to be archived.

*** Including a quote parameter for forum posts would allow specific relevant lines from a potentially long forum post to be quoted, thus highlighting the specific relevant information for ease of verification.
My Wiki Improvement Proposals subpage contains a list of things I would like to propose as improvements to the wiki. Many of these involve the creation or modification of templates, which is why I feel that perhaps they ought to be reviewed by other wiki contributors first, to be sure that I wouldn't be treading on anyone's toes by making the changes.
* Propose differentiating apocrypha with a large banner as is done with Unexplored Branches articles (e.g. Chiso Preniv), as opposed to the current method of using a small, unobvious badge.

** Hopefully the reasoning for this is obvious: to make apocrypha articles more obvious and less likely to be mistaken for 'official' content.

Skills & Experience[edit | edit source]

I have around a decade's worth of programming experience. My primary programming languages are C++, C#, Lua, Haskell, and my favourite topics are language design, parsing, and compiler construction.

Historically I don't have much experience with editing wikis. I've done the odd bit of editing on UESP, but my work here on the Guild of Archivists is the most I've ever contributed to a single wiki, and as a result I've learnt a great deal in a short time, particularly about templates, modules, and Semantic MediaWiki properties.

Wiki Improvement Proposals[edit | edit source]

My Wiki Improvement Proposals subpage contains a list of things I would like to propose as improvements to the wiki. Many of these involve the creation or modification of templates, which is why I feel that perhaps they ought to be reviewed by other wiki contributors first, to be sure that I wouldn't be treading on anyone's toes by making the changes.
