It has often been rumored and joked about that Eddie has "special abilities" or some strange impact on the restoration effort, despite the obvious absurdity of such claims. Eddie got its name from Dr. Patrick Greer, one of the initial Authorized Explorers, when he saw several Restoration engineers kicking it around in Bevin. According to Dr. Greer, he named the beach ball after his college roommate because he considered him "a colorful and bouncy character."
