I'm inclined to rename this category either "Regestoy" (which would be consistent with how the Archive prefers to use native D'ni terms where possible, mainly to avoid A Plague Of Unnecessary Capitalization) or "The Art" (which is what more people know it as), since it should rightly contain any articles related to the broader concept of the Art itself, not just things specifically related to ''linking''. : I think "The Art" would be preferable. It's probably better to choose a familiar term over an 'accurate' D'ni term to reduce the odds of editors being unaware of the category or mistakenly using the more common term. After all, one can't create aliases for categories in the same way one can create redirects for pages.

After all, the majority of potential contributors likely don't know the relevant D'ni terms for various topics. A handful will know to write 'Regestoy' for 'The Art', but how many will know 'Terokh Jerooth' instead of 'The (Great) Tree of Possibilities', or 'Lem' instead of 'Ink'?

Rename this category?[edit source]

I'm inclined to rename this category either "Regestoy" (which would be consistent with how the Archive prefers to use native D'ni terms where possible, mainly to avoid A Plague Of Unnecessary Capitalization) or "The Art" (which is what more people know it as), since it should rightly contain any articles related to the broader concept of the Art itself, not just things specifically related to linking. Thoughts? --Alahmnat, Grand Master (talk) 10:33, 21 November 2019 (PST)

I think "The Art" would be preferable. It's probably better to choose a familiar term over an 'accurate' D'ni term to reduce the odds of editors being unaware of the category or mistakenly using the more common term. After all, one can't create aliases for categories in the same way one can create redirects for pages.
For that matter, I'm not sure the 'prefer native D'ni terms' policy is all that effective...
It seems that more or less the only person actually linking to 'Regestoy' rather than 'the Art' is you, Alahmnat, and that other users nearly always choose to link to 'The Art' instead. On the one hand that no doubt originates from being unaware of the policy, but on the other hand I think there's something to be said for using the term that most people will default to using when unaware of site policy.
Come to think of it, the articles for those last two are called 'Great Tree of Possibilities' and 'Ink' respectively, and in the 'Book' article the sections are 'Descriptive Book' and 'Linking Book' rather than 'Kormahn' and 'Korvahkh'. It very much seems that the use of 'Regestoy' throughout the wiki appears to be the exception rather than the rule.

D'ni Technologies Category[edit source]

I'm inclined to move this out of D'ni technologies because one of the linked articles describes a piece of Bahro technology, and it stands to reason that the D'ni don't have a total monopoly on use of the Art.
