This article is written from an OOC point-of-view. Events and elements in the D'ni Universe are regarded as fictional. |
Richard A. Watson, more commonly known as RAWA, is a long-standing Cyan employee, having joined during early stages of Myst's creation.
He was originally a programmer, but he has apparently become more focused on the lore aspects of the games instead, particularly during the development of Riven.[citation needed]
Community involvement[edit | edit source]
Over time, RAWA has become well-known for responding in detail to fans' questions on topics such as linking book theories,[citation needed] the actual workings of Rivenese water,[citation needed] and others. His responses would sometimes be attributed to "Dr. Watson",[citation needed] which may have influenced the creation of the IC character of the same name.[citation needed]
Over time he provided such responses in a variety of places, including The Riven Lyst; its successor, The Lysts; and later the DRC forum.[citation needed] Some of the most frequently-asked questions can be found on his website.[citation needed] (See external links.) His responses tend to go into detail, but also sometimes raise new questions by purposely omitting certain information.
When unable to give a proper response, (e.g. when doing so would interfere with company contracts or unpublished release dates,) he is notorious for answering with vague, noncommittal clichés, such as "Soon" or "We'll see".[citation needed]
Dr. Watson[edit | edit source]
Dr. Watson is the fictional version of himself,[citation needed] later featured as an in-game character. Dr. Watson was the head of the D'ni Restoration Council.
The name RAWA refers exclusively to the OOC Cyan Worlds employee. IC, RAWA and Dr. Watson are two completely different people.[citation needed]
