The Lattice Tree is the heart of Narayan's civilization. These huge trees float in mid-air high above the cloud tops of the Age, and require constant tending by the Narayani people. The tending process involves trimming of the Tree's delicate roots. While over-trimming of the roots could the Tree to die, leaving them untended would cause overgrowth, which would achieve the same effect. These trees are interwoven with Puffer Spores, which are used to keep the trees aloft, and are also used to make room-sized structures for the Narayani to live in. In the traditional Narayani Weaving ritual, the strong and flexible branches of the Lattice Tree are intertwined to form a lattice (giving the tree its name). The niche within the lattice is then used to firmly hold the mature Puffer Spores to the tree. It is a delicate balance that must be maintained constantly, or the trees will die.
