Voltaic is one of 5 Lesson Ages written by Atrus to help teach his sons, Sirrus and Achenar, how to write Ages. Voltaic was used to demonstrate the qualities and uses of natural forms of energy. The Age is a veritable powerhouse of energy, with waterfalls and steam vents all over, thus embodying the concept of energy in motion. It is also a very dry, desolate place, surrounded by a deep blue ocean. Many forces are at work in this Age, and the machinery there channels these forces and puts them to use.
Voltaic's lesson phrase was Energy powers future motion.
